Many small businesses want
a web presence in order to expand the
geographical scope of their
market or to provide an easy way for local customers
to find out more about their business. Costs for
website development and hosting have fallen dramatically
over the past decade. Maybe now is the time for
you to have a site.
Many of my Boulder clients work at least
part-time from
their
homes, where they require several types of computer
services:
connect multiple computers
together so that all of them can go out to the internet
on a single connection; networks
also allow you to share files and printers between computers
(great way to back up your critical data!). Finally,
on
of the best things about setting up a network is that
routers provide one of the best firewalls around.
Make
sure your computer is protected from viruses, spyware,
Trojan horses, and other forms of malicious code; read
my advice
page for tips on keeping your computer safe. At this
point in time, I recommend that every computer that
goes out
to the Internet has a software firewall and a hardware
firewall (a router).
In addition to software and hardware installation, I tune
computers to run faster and smoother; by eliminating unnecessary
programs in your computer's RAM, your computer will start
up faster and run more smoothly. Please contact
me if you would like a free copy of my monthly
maintenance procedures checksheet.

Since 2003 backup technology has significantly improved
and become more affordable. If you are not making full
system backups now, you should. The cost of setting up
such a system is under $300, while the cost of trying
to recover data from crashed hard drive without a backup
can easily reach $3,000.
